About the Book
Champagne is without doubt one of the most popular wines in the world. Maybe even the most popular. It is the wine we drink whenever there is a special occasion: birth, birthday, New Year's Eve, or any other celebration. We like to drink it before a nice meal. We expect it at receptions and we are disappointed when the host has chosen cheaper bubbles to replace it. Champagne, in short, means joy, pleasure, fun.
Yet champagne has a nerdiness over it. The complicated process of the second fermentation in the bottle, and the even more complicated way the Champenois interpret this method, make champagne by far the most "technical" wine in the world. While climat, soil and grapes are important, the winemaker and she alone determines the quality and style of the wine. I write "she", not to be politically correct, but because actually many champagne makers are female.
So there is a need for this book. And even if there weren't, I would have written it. Because I am a bit nerdy myself, and because I like champagne a lot. Have fun.
